Gmail just announced the latest update which positively affects Indian users around the world. E-mail is one of the most prominent modes of communication over the internet and making it available for everyone to access it regardless of language, only seems logical to me.

Indian users can compose e-mail in 5 different Indian languages. The languages include Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. The new features are based on Google's transliteration technology.

Gmail Languages

Google's engineering team in India is always looking out for stuff they can work on to make Google's products more local and accessible by Indian users. Gmail offered local language interface quite some time ago and offering to compose an e-mail in local language was the next best thing to do.

The feature will automatically appear on Indian Gmail users interface, however, if you don't see it on your account you can enable/disable it from "Settings".

Please find below the notification sent by RBI to all banks.

Customer charges for use of ATMs for cash withdrawal and balance enquiry
1. Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) have gained prominence as a delivery channel for banking transactions in India. Banks have been deploying ATMs to increase their reach. While ATMs facilitate a variety of banking transactions for customers, their main utility has been for cash withdrawal and balance enquiry. As at the end of December 2007, the number of ATMs deployed in India was 32,342. Commensurate with the branch network, larger banks have deployed more ATMs. Most banks prefer to deploy ATMs at locations where they have a large customer base or expect considerable use. To increase the usage of ATMs as a delivery channel, banks have also entered into bilateral or multilateral arrangements
with other banks to have inter-bank ATM networks.

2. It is evident that the charges levied on the customers vary from bank to bank and also vary according to the ATM network that is used for the transaction. Consequently, a customer is not aware, before hand, of the charges that will be levied for a particular ATM transaction, while using an ATM of another bank. This generally discourages the customer from using the ATMs of other banks. It is, therefore, essential to ensure greater transparency.

3. International experience indicates that in countries such as UK, Germany and France, bank customers have access to all ATMs in the country, free of charge except when cash is withdrawn from white label ATMs or from ATMs managed by non-bank entities. There is also a move,
internationally, to regulate the fee structure by the regulator from the public policy angle. The ideal situation is that a customer should be able to access any ATM installed in the country free of charge through an equitable cooperative initiative by banks.

4. In view of this, RBI had placed on its website an Approach paper and sought public comments. The comments received have been analysed. Based on the feed back a framework of service charges would be implemented by all banks as under:

Service Charges Details
(1) For use of own ATMs for any purpose Free (with immediate effect)

(2) For use of other bank ATMs for balance enquiries Free (with immediate effect)

(3) For use of other bank ATMs for cash withdrawals
No bank shall increase the charges prevailing as on December 23, 2007 (i.e. the date of
release of Approach Paper on RBI website)
Banks which are charging more than Rs.20 per transaction shall reduce the charges to
a maximum of Rs.20 per transaction by March 31, 2008
Free - with effect from April 1, 2009.

5. For the services at (1) and (2) above, the customer will not be levied any charge under any other head and the service will be totally free.

6. For the service number (3) the charge of Rs.20/- indicated will be all inclusive and no other charges will be levied to the customers under any other head irrespective of the amount of withdrawal.

7. The service charges for the following types of cash withdrawal transactions may be determined by the banks themselves:
(a) cash withdrawal with the use of credit cards
(b) cash withdrawal in an ATM located abroad.

Thus Please note that wef 01st April, 2009 ATM cards can be used in any bank’s ATM for withdrawing cash without
any charges.

The new "Undo Send" feature hit the Gmail labs. Enable this feature and you can stop those e-mails that are meant for someone else or the ones where you forget to attach a document or simply the one with the wrong subject line.

That's about to change, just enable the "Undo Send" feature in Gmail Labs and you can Undo the sent messages.

Technically this feature does not really recall the sent messages but it delays sending of messages by 5 seconds. So if you realize something is wrong with the e-mail you just clicked "send" on, you have about 5 seconds to Undo Send.

Undo Send

This feature comes in handy for the messages that are sent in a rush.

Rescue your cell from water

You always try to protect your cell from not going into water, but atleast once in its lifetime, it finds its way into water. That's a very sad moment. But does this mean that it's time to abandon your cell phone? No! Especially not if you try this home remedy.

  • First of all, take out the phone battery from the cell immediately. This will prevent electrical short circuits within the cell which can even burn the internal parts of your cell.
Cell Phone in Uncooked Rice
  • Next, gently wipe your cell with a tissue, and bury it into a jar full of uncooked rice. Yes, rice! Remember that the coconut is kept in dry rice to keep moisture away? It's the same logic that works here too. It has been found that rice has a high chemical affinity for water. In simple words, it attracts water. So, water doesn't stick to the cold metal of your cell, instead it is soaked by the rice, thus leaving your cell dry (well, almost dry).

Dual SIM handset manufacturers have been asked to stop import of phones as the patent holder (Somasundaram Ramkumar of Madurai) is seeking royalty of Rs. 35/ for every phone shipped to India.

Somasundaram Ramkumar, holds patent (awarded last year) "in India for phones with a plurality of SIM cards allocated to different communication networks" – and since the application is valid for 5 years, companies like Nokia, Samsung, Meridian Mobile and Spice might have to cough up the royalty (source).

Around 100,000 dual-SIM phones are sold in the country every month – @ royalty of Rs. 35/ per phone, you can imagine the value this patent would deliver!

This is what Business Standard has to Say:

The dual-SIM handset manufacturers are in a spot after a Madurai resident, who holds patent for such phones, asked the Indian Customs authorities to stop shipment of these phones till he was paid a royalty for every handset brought into the country.

Industry experts expect the move to hit the sales of dual-SIM handsets, which are imported into the country by companies including Nokia, Samsung, Meridian Mobile and Spice. More importantly, this could also affect the plans to manufacture these handsets in the country. It is estimated that around 100,000 dual-SIM phones are sold in the country every month.

The Madurai resident, Somasundaram Ramkumar, holds patent "in India for phones with a plurality of SIM cards allocated to different communication networks". The patent was awarded to him last year.

Ramkumar has moved the Office of the Commissioner of Customs of Chennai Airport in this regard. The office has accepted his application and directed officials throughout the country to stop clearing shipments of dual-SIM phones, a source close to the development told Business Standard.

The application is valid for five years or till the time the patent is valid, whichever is earlier. Ramkumar is believed to have sought royalty (believed to be around Rs 35) for every dual-SIM phone shipped into the country.

Even though Ramkumar could not be immediately contacted for comments, manufacturers and distributors in the country confirmed the development.

European handset major Meridian Mobile CEO Rajiv Khanna said most of the companies had inventory for a couple of months. He hoped that the issue would be resolved by then. Meridian Mobile sells dual SIM handsets under the brand name 'Fly'.

The Indian Cellular Association (ICA), the body of handset vendors in India, has already formed a committee to look into the matter, and has initiated dialogue with the Customs department.

Dual-SIM handsets have two SIM slots and can work on both CDMA and GSM networks. They are popular among users due to the convenience of alternating between two numbers. These phones are particularly useful to international as some countries (like South Korea) do not have GSM networks, while others (certain places in the US) do not have CDMA networks.

*WHEN A LIZARD CAN, WHY CAN'T WE ???? *

This is a true story that happened in Japan.

In order to renovate the house, Someone in Japan breaks open the wall.

Japanese houses normally have a hollow space between the wooden walls.

When tearing down the walls, he found that there was a lizard stuck there

Because a nail from outside hammered into one of its feet.

He sees this, feels pity, and at the same time curious, as when he checked the nail,

it was nailed 10 years ago when the house was! first built.

  What happened?

The lizard has survived in such position for 10 years!!!!!!!!!!

In a dark wall partition for 10 years without moving, it is impossible and Mind-boggling.

Then he wondered how this lizard survived for 10 years! Without moving a single step--since its foot was nailed!

So he stopped his work and observed the lizard, what it has been doing, and what and how it has been eating???

Later, not knowing from where it came, appears another lizard, with food in its mouth.

Ahh!!! He was stunned and touched deeply.

For the lizard that was stuck by nail, another lizard has been feeding it for the past 10 years...

Imagine? it has been doing that untiringly for 10 long years, without giving up hope on its partner.

Imagine what a small creature can do that a creature blessed with a brilliant mind can't.

Please never abandon your loved ones

Never Say U R Busy When They Really Need You...

You May Have The Entire World At Your Feet.....

But You Might Be The Only World To Them....

A Moment of negligence might break the very heart which loves you thru all  odds..

Before you say something just remember….It takes a moment to Break but an Entire life to make...
